More information

The Development Policy Centre is a think tank for aid and development policy based at the Crawford School. The centre researches and promotes discussion of aid effectiveness, the Pacific and PNG, and development policy.

Five ANU students will get the chance to network with some of the world’s most influential development and aid experts, thanks to a one off grant.

The grant will go to five ANU students and five students from University of Melbourne, who will attend The Future of International Development in Asia and the Pacific Conference in Melbourne on 9-10 May.

The conference aims to look beyond the 2015 Millennium Development Goals and look further into international development in Asia and the Pacific. Included in the event will be an ABC Big Ideas panel discussion.

Speakers at the event will include Professor Stephen Howes, Director of the Development Policy Centre at Crawford School, Mr Peter Baxter, Director-General of AusAID, Dr Michael Fullilove, Executive Director of the Lowy Institute for International Policy, Helen Szoke, Chief Executive of Oxfam Australia and Dermot O’Gorman, CEO of WWF-Australia.

The grant includes attendance at the public and invite-only parts of the conference, as well as economy airfares to Melbourne and accommodation.

Students wanting the chance to secure one of the grants will need to apply by 21 April. To be eligible students should be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at either The Australian National University or The University of Melbourne.

To apply, students will need to submit a CV together with a one page response outlining why they should be chosen, the benefits of their attendance at the conference and how they would use social media to promote the event.
