Crawford School students need your vote to put them in the running for US$1 million to implement their solution to global hunger.
The team is part of this year’s Hult Prize competition - the world’s largest student competition. It aims to solve the planet’s key social problems.
In their bid to take top honours, the ANU team made up of students from Crawford School in the College of Asia and the Pacific, have put together a brief video outlining their AquaFEAST business proposal and how it could go a long way towards solving hunger issues in the world’s slums.
Their video - the Aquafeast solution - is the latest step in trying to scoop the prize, following a trip to Shanghai last month for the regional final. Although team members Gil Arevalo, Shannon Bourke, Kathryn Hayward, Mahawira Dillon and Denise Suarez, didn’t win the regional heat, they still have the chance to win start-up capital for their solution through the support of online voting.
At present the video is one of the top 10 ranking teams and the need to maintain this in order to make it through to the closed jury selection round.
“We want to sustain our momentum to be in the top ten, which means we need more people to vote for us and share the video online. Only videos that remain consistently in the top ten have the chance to be selected by international judges and go to the final round in New York to eventually implement the project with seed money coming from the Hult prize,” said team member Gil Arevalo.
“We are optimistic that many people will appreciate the team’s innovative and compelling social enterprise solution and we’re hoping that this appreciation will be translated into votes. Their model is about increasing the accessibility of nutritious and tasty food at an affordable price to the growing number of people living in urban slums while empowering them to become social entrepreneurs themselves in the process,” said team mentor Paul D’Arcy.
Votes are open until 12 May. To view the video and vote, visit the Hult Prize Online Event page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hultglobalcasechallenge/app_253961071406636
